Introduction

Baical Skullcap Root is the dried root of the perennial herb Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (Lamiaceae). The root is conical in shape, often twisted, and can reach up to 30 cm in length. Its surface is brownish-yellow or deep yellow, with sparse longitudinal wrinkles and an irregular. The texture is hard and brittle, easily broken and the fractured surface is yellow with a reddish-brown center, showing a distinct ring (cambium) and radial lines. It has a slight aromatic odor and a bitter taste.
